Single Selections: Super Extended Edition

Michelle Branch - Loud Music   3/5   Official Website

The lead single off Branch's soon to be released album West Coast Time, is Branch's comeback of sorts as a solo artist. Loud Music is light, easy pop/rock and while it's not Branch's best work, there's something to be said about a girl and her guitar on radio stations that are heavily saturated with female dance artists. A familiar face and a breath of fresh air Loud Music does it's job putting Branch back on the map.

Coldplay - Major Minus   3.5/5   iTunes

Coldplay has returned with 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' and an EP of the same name featuring 3 tracks including 'Major Minus' a tune the finds Chris Martin and co. right were they left off on Viva La Vida or Death & All His Friends. 'Major Minus' builds steadily on guitar before entering the stratosphere with echoing guitars and Bono-esque hoots. It's what we've come to expect from Coldplay, and we don't mind it one bit!

3OH!3 - Robot   1/5   Myspace

The electronic duo best known for their single 'Don't Trust Me' and collaborations with Katy Perry and Kesha, the boys are well past their expiration date. Their latest attempt to milk whatever's left of their claim to fame 'Robot' a wanna-be Beastie Boys/Eminem track feels more like a cheap knock off. If we want to hear about sexy robots we'll stick to Robyn's 'Fembots' thanks.

Pepper Rabbit - Rose Mary Stretch   4/5   Myspace

A shimmering pop-rock tune, that's perfect for your summer playlist, this is one song worth getting to know. Pepper Rabbit are one of the year's best breakout acts. If 'Rose Mary Stretch' is any indication their sophomore album Red Velvet Snow Ball is going to be a knockout.

The Dig - You're Already Gone   3/5   iTunes

Following Shattered Vinyl's exposure to the band at Toronto's The Garrison during NXNE, The Dig and 'You're Already Gone' have been a toe tapping tune that's the pop equivalent to The Strokes. It may not be a new single but it's never too late to discover a good tune.

Maroon 5 - Moves Like Jagger feat. Christina Aguilera   3.5/5   iTunes

Who knew The Voice (American Idol 2.0) would be such a hit?! Or that Aguilera performing guest vocals on an Adam Levine & co. track would work so well. 2011 hasn't had many true pop hits emerge so far but this may be one... just maybe. An undeniably catchy chorus you can sing along to, and a dance-pop groove what's not to like.

YACHT - Dystopia (The Earth is on Fire)   4/5   Official Website

This Alternative-electro-pop tune drenched in synth is a quirky charmer. A seductive groove, and YACHT's signature quirkiness make for one hook heavy jam, you'll be singing at work for days on end. There's plenty of 80s influence throughout and who doesn't love the 80s?... Seriously!

Matt Nathanson - Faster   2/5   Myspace

Nathanson may have produced one of the more underrated love songs of the past decade in 'Come On Get Higher' but his latest single 'Faster' falls into the pure cheese category. Nathanson gets sucked into the vacuum of love sick male singer-songwriters with this dud. We get it love makes your heart beat faster but maybe that's not due to love, maybe that's just an irregular heartbeat?

Katy Perry - Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)   3.5/5   Vevo

Love her or hate her Katy Perry has produced couple summer smashes 'I Kissed A Girl' and 'Teenage Dream' just to name a few, so it's no surprise 'Last Friday Night' is already a winner on your local radio. We enjoy good pop fluff every now and then, especially when the accompanying music video features 80's neon spandex, Kenny G and Corey Feldman as Perry's father... classy touch. Maybe it's a cheap thrill, maybe we're crushin' on Perry or maybe it's just good fun!

Johan Agebjorn & Le Prix - Watch The World Go By feat. Lake Heartbeat   4.5/5  Official Website

Offered up as part of Paper Bag Records FREE Summer Sampler, Agebjorn creates a breezy, summer tune, that's perfect for a late night drive. Airy vocals provided by Lake Heartbeat and a pulsing beat are the key ingredients in a mix that sends you into a state of euphoria, a perfect summer single.

Studio Killers - Ode to the Bouncer   4/5   Youtube

The Swedish equivalent to Gorillaz, this cartoon fronted band introduce themselves with a sleezy track about an overly sexual female and the bouncer standing in the way of her and the dancefloor. It's an electro-pop tune that's sure to have you hooked, and with a rather interesting cast of animated faces that act as the band in their music video, this novel act is just plan fun.

SebastiAn - Love In Motion feat. Mayer Hawthorne   4.5/5   iTunes

Crunchy synth and hand claps to boot, this sultry tune gets turned up a notch by the addiction of crooner Mayer Hawthorne vocals. Though muffled in amongst the layer upon layer of production, Hawthorne channels some serious Prince, turning SebastiAn's groove into a hot and heavy jam. Motown meet Electronica... more please!

David Guetta - Little Bad Girl feat. Taio Cruz & Ludacris   1.5/5   iTunes

Guetta may have turned superstar dj/producer thanks to Kelly Rowland and a monster jam by the name of 'When Love Takes Over' but recycling the same formula Guetta's become a bore. 'Little Bad Girl' is forgettable and though Guetta's beat is the only point of interest on the track, we've heard it all before.
