Megan Bonnell @ The Rivoli
Nevado Showcase NXNE 2011
Since first being introduced to Megan Bonnell last October she has arguably become a staple of the Toronto music scene and since that initial mesmerizing performance at Toronto's Magpie, Bonnell has continued to perform and record with her debut EP Maps, due out on Nevado Records June 21st.
Recording aside, watching Bonnell perform during the Nevado NXNE showcase at Toronto's Rivoli Wednesday night was rewarding for fans of the ethereal beauty. Unlike the girl a crowd of 50+ people met 9 months ago, Bonnell appeared more confident, and at home with her audience.
Chattier and more present in her performance, Bonnell showcased her standard 'The Wind' which was still as charming as ever alongside new material that fit right in with Megan's lively, enthralling vocals and rich sound that was provided added depth from the accompanying percussion and cello. Bonnell had much of the audience eating out of the palm of her hand and as always earned some new fans in the process. The new music of Maps showcases rich, textured music that is pitch perfect and serves only to strengthen Megan's live performances.
The reward of seeing and listening to Bonnell perform is the consistency of being treated to gorgeous vocals and lush instrumentals, but the highlight is coming away feeling like you got to know Megan Bonnell just a little bit more than the last time around.
Catch Megan Sunday, June 19th at Live In Bellwoods: The NXNE Picnic Series v. 2011 in Trinity-Bellwoods Park.
