The Dig @ The Garrison
DOSE.CA Presents NXNE 2011
Like so many bands at NXNE, New York's The Dig were a real find provided you still had the energy to make it to their 1AM gig at the Garrison Thursday night. For any who did were treated to catchy pop/rock that deserves a little attention.
Armed with some reverb, rich beats and plenty of grooves, the Dig's set focused on their 2010 debut Electric Toys with no shortage of ear candy to be mined from the record. From the standout 'Shadow' a mid-tempo tune, with a seductive beat and what appeared to be arena rock aspirations to the sexy guitar-oriented groove of 'I Just Wanna Talk To You' The Dig were gratifying and certainly had some audience members dancing.
The boys particularly vocalist David Baldwin could have benefited from a little more emphasis on vocals which more often than not seemed to take a back seat to the band's instrumentation, making it difficult pick up on the lyrics at times, an effect that didn't seem entirely on purpose. The Dig conjure up numerous comparisons, none more so than The Strokes minus the grit, but are worth checking out as the band definitely has its charm and came armed with some damn catchy tunes.
