Record Review: 1,2,3

1,2,3 - New Heaven   4/5  iTunes

Over the past year, Pittsburgh's 1,2,3 have been releasing track after track of compelling indie rock from 'Riding Coach' to 'Heat Lighntin' leading up to their debut album New Heaven.

The duo's anthemic rock track 'Work' with it's catchy chorus arranged with jangly guitars, crisp tambourine, thunderous cymbals and Nic Snyder's showy falsetto kick New Heaven into high gear. The album hooks you in with the outstanding 'Heat Lightnin' whispering vocals and quivering acoustic guitar, or the Brian Wilson inspired melody of 'Wave Pool.'
The latter half of New Heaven, slows down considerably with the bluesy-waltz of 'Just Like Heaven (is gone)' and 'Sorry Soldier' but finds redemption in the hazy synth, electro hip-hop beat of the dreamy 'Riding Coach' another standout track.
While the album suffers from a less energetic second half, the record's experimenting in an expansive range of sounds and solid song writing make New Heaven a pleasurable experience.
