Single Selection: Sept. 13th, 2011

Born Gold - Decimate Everything   3.5/5   Soundcloud
Canadian outfit, Born Gold's latest single "Decimate Everything" is delightful futuristic noise-pop. Featuring distorted vocals and a wealth electronic elements its a playful, energetic track that's hard to forget. Offered as a free download on Soundcloud it's worth exploring.

Zambri - On Call   3/5   Soundcloud
Sister duo Zambri's "On Call" is progressive noise pop that is in a word, enthralling. Industrial beats, erratic synth, and broken melodies it's hard not to be captivated by Zambri's unique sound. This dark track with fragmented vocals is like Kate Bush on an acid trip, and that's a good thing... or is it?

Coldplay - Paradise   4/5   iTunes
The latest single off Coldplay's much anticipated album Mylo Xyloto, "Paradise" is a lush, anthemic pop song. Piano-driven verses, soaring guitars, and sonic strings make for a powerful melodic anthem that's easily identifiable as Coldplay. The repetitive 'para-para-paradise' in the falsetto hook of "Paradise" is all but hypnotic.

Rachael Yamagata - Even If I Don't   4/5  Soundcloud
The highly underrated Yamagata has spent much of the past few years collaborating with other artists, but will see her new record Chesapeake released later this fall where her latest single "Even If I Don't" will be found. Yamagata croons her smoky vocals over the piano-driven tune about a couple that fall in love but ultimately are at odds and split. It's bittersweet and we like it that way.
