Single Selection: Sept. 20th, 2011

V.V. Brown - Children feat. Chiddy (Of Chiddy Bang)   3.5/5   Leaked

U.K.'s V.V. Brown returns with 'Children' her first single off her sophomore album due out early 2012. The sing-song pop jam is a playful twist on the elementary school tune "Do Your Ears Hang Low," with the same retro R&B/soul as Brown's debut record. A choir of voices on it's chorus, the borders on bratting, with a bouncing beat and loaded with hand claps, it all but makes you want to bust out the jump roap and hopscotch.

Patrick Stump - This City feat. Lupe Fiasco   1.5/5   Youtube

Stump's solo venture post Fall Out Boy is in a word colourful.  Stump's ode to his home town of Chicago, the synth pop jam with it's subtle M.J. inspired groove is a bland dish made all the more lively by it's video treatment. Did we mention the music video to accompany the first single? Stump's A Flock of Seagulls haircut and overtly large shoulder padded jackets make Stump's solo debut become all the more comical breathing a little life into an already tired track.

Neon Indian - Polish Girl   4/5   Myspace

An infectious beat, swirling synth and futuristic atmosphere, Neon Indian's "Polish Girl" is a catchy slice of electro-pop with reverb vocals and simple looping dance beats, Neon Indian is right alongside the likes of Washed Out and the chillwave genre that has trended throughout 2011. If you haven't already check out, Psychic Chasms, Neon Indian's latest record.

Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga - The Lady Is A Tramp   4/5    iTunes

Bennett, may be a legend but he's still savvy enough to collaborate with the world's biggest pop star for a surprisingly refreshing version of "The Lady Is A Tramp." Gaga's vocals are disarmingly pure and playful when stripped of her dance pop backings. Bennett and Gaga are a fun pairing start to finish, a classic tune given a classy treatment.
