Single Selections: Born Ruffians

Born Ruffians - Jimmy Jimmy   4.5/5  Soundcloud

A stellar groove and hand claps to boot, this stand out cover by Born Ruffians off label Paper Bag Records True Blue, a Madonna tribute album. The Ruffians turn the Madonna album filler into a bona fide airy, guitar driven summer jam. It's sweet ear candy that you must hear!

Alex Winston - Sister Wife (Star Slinger Remix)   3.5/5
Myspace

The quirky pop oddity from Detroit gets the remix treatment on her single 'Sister Wife'.  Adding new dimensions of synth, and sparce drums to Winston's clever lyrics and signature vocals for a remix that elevates 'Sister Wife' to the top of our playlist. Good pop, even better remix.

Johan Agebjorn - Watch The World Go By (Young Galaxy Remix)   3.5/5   Soundcloud

With warped synth, a slow beat and soft vocals it's atmospheric, dream pop that aims for the skies. Young Galaxy's remix adds new depth to this great single. Think Sound of Arrows only less 80s.

Dev - In The Dark   2/5   iTunes

There's no denying the instantly infectious club appeal of Dev's 'In The Dark,' the voice behind Far East Movement's smash 'Like A G6'. But it's initial appeal fades with the obvious sample of Danish dance group, Enur's smash 'Calabria 2007'. 'In The Dark' pretty fades into the blur of club hits and it's much more than dance filler.

Winter Gloves - True Blue   4/5   Soundcloud

We just can't get enough of Paper Bag Records' True Blue tribute. Montreal's Winter Gloves team up with indie sensation Hannah Georgas on vocals for a cover that plays with 50s, 60s pop sensibilities and just enough 80s cheesy pop (complete with saxophone) for a sinfully delicious cover of Madonna's classic title track.
