Callers - Life of Love 5/5
Myspace
There is nothing better than a record that transports you to another world and Callers, featuring the tough yet soulful vocals of Sara Lucas have achieved just that with their latest effort Life of Love.
The Brooklyn trio's gritty indie-rock dusted with folk and art-rock is stripped to its core. Instead of sleek production, Lucas' captivating vocals and the band's skill as multi-instrumentalists are put to use creating a record that is both sparse, yet rich in sound (ie 'Dressed In Blue'). For Callers less is more, and we agree.
Life of Love never misses a beat, at moments urgent like the haunting 'Roll,' soulful with the arousing groove of the album's title track 'Life of Love,' while each and every song Lucas conveys emotion that runs deeper than the lyrics sung. The records intensity leaves you speechless, a testament to the power of the record. It is rock at its finest and one record you shouldn't be without.
