Single Selections: Designer Drugs

Designer Drugs - Crazy For You (feat. Annie)   4/5

Myspace/iTunes

Combining one of Shattered Vinyl's current obsessions the club/electro outfit Designer Drugs with Norwegian dance-pop singer Annie, for an intoxicating electro-pop number with dark under currents. It's got all the makings of a club banger, and a highlight off the NYC DJ duo's latest effort, Hardcore/Softcore.

The Kills - You Don't Own The Road   4.5/5

Myspace

Cut from the sexy rock duo's latest, Blood Pressure. 'You Don't Own The Road' finds The Kills at their  sexiest, with a groove that struts and enough gritty guitar to make a grown man sweat upon first listen. This is one amped up groove, that's intoxicating as hell, and more dangerous than shots at the bar. The Kills are on fire and will set your speakers a blaze with this tune.

NKOTBSB - Don't Turn Out The Lights   1.5/5

iTunes

Don't let the gumble of initials fool you, NKOTBSB really stands for New Kids On The Block/Backstreet Boys... yes, that's right they've not only toured together but collaborated on a new pop track. There's something almost perverse about this pop tune, it's hook is unavoidable and goes down easy, but from the less than stellar lyrics to the whispering coo behind the chorus this much cheese from two aging boy bands will make you sick soon after attempting digestion.

Imogen Heap - Lifeline   2/5

Myspace

There is no denying Shattered Vinyl's love for Imogen Heap, but there's no covering up the lack of excitement for her latest effort. Lifeline for all it's beauty is another graceful, if not dramatic song from Heap that feel a little too cookie cutter for our liking. There are worse things, and Heaps track record is in her favor but this is a lackluster tune.

Austra - Lose It   4/5

Myspace

Toronto trio Austra, create a dark, danceable tune in 'Lose It' that draws from both classical and electronic sensibilities. Katie Stelmanis' operatic vocals make for an intoxicating cocktail of electronic beats and a vocals that's paralyzes you in amazement. This is one stellar, standout.
