Record Revue: Little Red

Midnight Remember   3.5/5

If there is one thing North American audiences are lacking it's a good straightforward pop band, all too often we're fed band after band of pop-punk but Australian natives, Little Red fill that void nicely. Bringing their debut album Midnight Remember across the Pacific, Little Red introduce North Americans to their simple, crisp pop-rock tunes.

Crafting harmonies that echo classic Beach Boys, warm, beach worthy pop tunes; "Sometimes sweet, sometimes sad" croons Dominic Byrne, on the charming "Get A Life." Summer, hooky anthem "Rock It" hints at contemporaries MGMT and Phoenix, without loosing the band's lazy, hazy '50s pop style. Soaring guitars of the mid-tempo "Slow Motion" add dimensions to the bands smooth pop aesthetic, reaching sonic levels on the U2-esque "I Can't Wait."
Midnight Remember is a tight pop record that's charming from beginning to end, though not without a misstep on the folksy "In My Bed" and "Little Bit of Something." Though they are solid tracks, they disrupt an otherwise seamless pop record, that's one of the year's best.

Essential Tracks: "Chelsworth" "Get A Life" and "Rock It"
