Record Review: Rob Moir

Rob Moir - This Is The Lie EP   3/5

After five years fronting Toronto punk band, Dead Letter Dept., Rob Moir debuts his second act as a thoughtful singer-songwriter. For those familiar with Moir's indie-punk aesthetics, you may need a moment to adjust your headphones when first exposed to Moir's debut solo EP, This Is The Lie, a five track introduction to a more soulful dare we say kinder Moir.
Moir's rougher, unpolished aesthetic and vocals give his new found folk sound a bit of bite without verging into alt-rock territory. Crooning about being lost and lonely on 'A Love With No Past,' or kissing girls in the rain on title track 'This Is The Lie' Moir's rough around the edges take on folk is refreshing.
Hitting the road for an extensive North American tour, Moir plans to introduce audiences to his more organic, earnest tunes. The newly re-incarnated folk artist, Moir could use a bit of fine tuning but time on the road should give Moir time to perfect his craft, then again This Is The Lie, is only the beginning.
