Record Revue: Polica

Give You The Ghost   3.5/5

GAYNGS’ vocalist Channy Casselle and Producer Ryan Olson bring together their love of electronic adventurism with pop sensibilities and soulful vocals on their latest project Polica.

Give You the Ghost is a playground of textured synthesizers, processed vocals and electronic sound-scapes with tracks like “The Maker” a staple of the album’s lush sound with Casselle’s soulful yet over produced vocals and programmed drums. Bon Iver’s Mike Noyce makes a cameo on two of the duo’s tracks including “Lay Your Cards Out” adding vocals to the rich swirling synth, R&B rhythms that’s tweeked and contorted by Olson for a track that’s both cinematic and hypnotizing in its sound.
Beneath the swirling layered mass you’ll find a soulful record in Give You the Ghost that despite all the manipulation of Casselle’s vocals she manages to convey a bluesy-soul adding depth to Polica’s music, making for an album that’s both majestic and sultry.
