Artists to Watch 2012: Honour Roll

As part of our 2nd annual Artists to Watch list we've decided to add a new addition to the festivities, the Honour Roll. Not everyone can make the cut but we've taken some additional artists we considered for our list that deserve the honour of our Artist to Watch 2012: Honour Roll.

Jane's Party

Toronto's feel good pop act Jane's Party will be picking up where 2011 left off with more performances  in support of their self-titled EP and hitting the studio creating more pop confections.
Unapologetic pop that's charming and contagious, if you're not a cheerleader of Jane's Party, you best get on board as the boys are planning on hitting Montreal & Halifax along with an American invasion, this is one pop band we love unconditionally.

Teenage Kicks

Teenage Kicks may not have a gimmick or quirky charm but the band's gritty blue-collar rock is some of the best rock around. Recently announcing the Teenage Kicks Singles Club and their new EP Be On My Side, out March 2nd 2012, there are plenty of reasons to be keeping your eyes on these rockers.
Named to Shattered Vinyl's Best of 2011... EPs for their previous effort, Rational Anthems, there is no shortage of love for these Toronto boys, and we've said it once, we'll say it again, their tumblr is great fun!

Kalle Mattson

Ottawa's Kalle Mattson have garnered a lot of local buzz and rightfully so with their folk-rock sound and impressive sophomore effort Anchors, the band has garned attention from The National Post and Ottawa Citizen, with comparisons to Wilco. A bit grand? Perhaps but don't under estimate Kalle Mattson, they are certainly a band worth remembering.

We Are The City

Kelowna, British Columbia's We Are The City kept busy in 2011, releasing their High School EP and their Mourning Song/Morning Song 7" single. After touring North America the trio are currently camped out working on a new LP, one we can't wait to get our hands on, and even if that's later this year, it's best to keep an eye on the band's progress via Tumblr.

Midi Matilda

One of the hottest new acts of 2012 has already been established in Midi Matilda. The San Francisco duo have not only lit up the Bay Area with buzz but The Huffington Post and the Hypem chart with their singles "Red Light District" and "Day Dream," the latter of which has one of the coolest videos we've seen in a long time.  There's plans for another single and given Shattered Vinyl's love their pop gem "Day Dream" we can't wait for more!

No Sinner

Vancouver upstarts No Sinner are the kind of band that requires a two drink minimum (and we mean that in the best way possible) with a bluesy-rock soul the band's debut single "Boo Hoo Hoo" that has hints of Janis Joplin and classic blues thanks to lead singer Colleen Rennison's raspy, untamed vocals. Set to release their debut EP in March, this is just the beginning for No Sinner.

Florrie

Back in late 2010 Shattered Vinyl named Florrie our November 2010 Artist to Watch when we said "It's only a matter of time before she finds her way to your local HMV or radio station" we didn't know we were foreshadowing events to come like Florrie's upcoming HMV Next Big Thing in London, UK or her recent ad campaign for Nina Ricci's L'Elixir Eau de Parfum. On the music side of the things 2011 saw the drummer/singer-songwriter release the Experiments EP and with more music promised in the new year, Florrie's slow but steady rise is still worth watching.

DWNTWN

Los Angeles' duo DWNTWN have been on our radar for some time now with singles like "Hungry Hearts" and "Transitions" their euphoric electro-synth pop is both fresh and nostalgic. Recently producing a cover of Angus & Julia's hit "Big Jet Plane," the duo keeps us engaged with great tracks, Facebook posts and sun kissed amateur shot music videos of the band themselves. Not to mention the promise of more material to come DWNTWN continue to be on Shattered Vinyl's must list and though we've been treated to a mixtape, we eagerly await an EP or proper record from the duo.
