We Were Lovers @ Horseshoe Tavern/Rancho Relaxo
Saskatoon's dance-pop darlings We Were Lovers recently embarked on their North American tour, hitting Toronto for two performances earlier this week at the Horseshoe Tavern, and Rancho Relaxo with Toronto's Freedom or Death. Since the duo's previous appearance in June for Toronto's NXNE 2011, they've added a key element to their live performances, a drummer in Brad Heck.
Newly minted as a three piece on the band's current tour, Heck's drumming is an instantly rewarding addition to guitarist Ash Lamothe and vocalist Elsa Gebremichael, giving We Were Lovers thicker beats that compliment the band's guitar grooves and sultry vocals.
Currently working on their new record out by Spring 2012, We Were Lovers offered up their first taste of what's to come with "We Got It" as well as playing it alongside other new tracks like "Bodies." Unlike their previous Toronto engagement during NXNE where many new songs were in their infancy, Ash and Elsa have found the sweet spot with most of their new additions including "Bodies," had toes tapping to the beat. Also debuting a brand new track not yet performed prior to the tour had definite promise.
Invigorated by new material, a third piece with drummer Brad Heck and great favourites like "Partners In Crime," We Were Lovers certainly were lovely and worth checking out their tour.
