Artist to Watch: Oh Land

Oh Land

Admittedly discovering Oh Land was a happy accident, while cruising Youtube, happening upon the video for Oh Land's lead single 'Sun of a Gun' but that was all it took to be hooked. A disciplined former ballet dancer educated with the Royal Danish and Royal Swedish ballet coupled with her upbringing in a creative family have left an undeniable imprint on Oh Land's music.
The Danish native's airy vocals, electro-beats and quirky musical style on 'Sun of a Gun' are just a teaser of Oh Land's vast musical landscape, from atmospheric strings, to electronic beats, mechanical tics, and whirls to layered vocals she has all the ingredients for pop music that will tickle your ears and move your feet.
Songs like 'Perfection' highlight Oh Land's alluring appeal, dreamy pop with lush strings, along side mechanical thumps while a mid-track breakdown into a electro-beat driven chant, draw her comparisons to contemporaries Lykke Li and Bjork. Comparisons aside Oh Land proves more than a mere copy cat, embracing her pop sensibilities on the hook heavy 'Sun of a Gun' and the bouncy 'White Nights' prove disarming, delivering a one-two punch, as a diverse pop artist.
As a songwriter, Oh Land proves herself a story teller, with imagery that combined with her instrumental elements create seamless, otherworldly pop. Whether she's remixed on the dancefloor or playing in lavish soundscapes Oh Land is spell-binding, addictive pop that begs to be put on repeat. Set to release her debut album next month, Oh Land is worth inspection.
